Position Summary
WSP is initiating a search for a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to enhance our team. Engage in projects with our Ground Engineering & Materials, Earth & Environment Team and contribute to a growing organization that addresses client needs and resolves their challenges. Your role will involve providing local geotechnical engineering expertise for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects across various sectors.
Your responsibilities will include conducting geotechnical analyses, leading site characterization initiatives, and managing project delivery teams. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with our operations specializing in fundamental geotechnical engineering applications, cold region challenges, and rock mechanics. Our team excels in crafting client solutions for northern conditions.
Your Contributions
- Lead and manage projects as a collaborative team member.
- Define site characterizations and guide colleagues through geotechnical analyses for soil stability and foundation design.
- Prepare and review technical documentation.
- Train colleagues in documenting and inspecting ground construction activities.
- Foster business relationships and maintain client communication.
- Enhance project management skills relevant to your experience.
- Exhibit safety leadership and adhere to safety protocols and site-specific procedures.
- Work independently or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientists on multiple concurrent projects.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior geotechnical engineers.
- Stay updated on the latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices.
- Collaborate with other engineers and planners on projects funded by various authorities.
- Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company resources and conduct, following WSP's Code of Conduct.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant post-education experience in geotechnical engineering and foundation solutions.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Willingness to undertake assignments that may require travel.
- Comfortable working in remote environments.
- Familiarity with computer-based deep foundation axial and lateral capacity software.
- Knowledge of computer-based slope stability software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
- Self-motivated with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Capability to work independently while providing guidance to junior team members.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge effectively.
- Ability to direct field personnel, such as subcontractors, to ensure safe and efficient task completion.
- Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies.
- Flexibility to work beyond standard hours as project demands require.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration in Alaska or the ability to obtain it within 18 months of employment.
- Experience with foundation capacity analysis in cold regions and permafrost conditions.
