About Rigor Hill Market (RHM)
Rigor Hill Market is a vibrant neighborhood café and marketplace, brought to life by the team behind One White Street. Our mission centers on showcasing our farm, restaurant, and the Hudson Valley. We partner with local farms in Ghent, NY, to highlight fresh seasonal produce, prepared foods, and artisanal baked goods. Our beverage selection includes coffee, tea, and more.


About our Bakery Program
RHM features a micro bakery equipped with a complete production line. We create daily service breads for the restaurant, market breads for sale, and a variety of laminated products for retail. Our bakery also crafts daily quiches, muffins, and cookies for the market.

Position Overview
The Head Baker oversees the creation of all baked goods, both laminated and non-laminated. This role involves planning, preparation, setup, and ensuring quality service across all food production areas.

Key Responsibilities
Production Management

  • Review production schedules and prioritize daily tasks.
  • Prepare menu items following established recipes and yield guides, ensuring efficiency and quality.
  • Set up workstations with necessary mise en place, tools, and supplies according to standards.
  • Collaborate with the service team to ensure timely setup of all stations.
  • Restock items as needed throughout the shift.
  • Communicate with market staff regarding production timing and customer feedback.
  • Engage in staff training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Support fellow team members whenever possible.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Share essential guest information with the team to ensure a successful service.

Sanitation and Safety Standards

  • Adhere to state sanitation and health regulations as well as company procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment usage and ensure proper handling and safety.
  • Inspect cleanliness and organization of work areas and rectify any issues.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment meet cleanliness and operational standards.
  • Report any safety violations to the supervisor immediately.
  • Follow proper storage procedures as outlined by health regulations.

Brand Representation

  • Understand and communicate the values and philosophy of One White Street and Rigor Hill Market to both customers and staff.
  • Promote the brand vision while positioning us as innovators in the industry.
  • Participate in publicity and community outreach initiatives.
  • Embodiment of our guest-centric vision in retail operations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Baker or Pastry Chef.
  • Proficient in lamination techniques.
  • Experience with a full range of bread production.
  • Ability to lift and move over 50 lbs.
  • Possession of a NYC Food Protection Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Availability for early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Capacity to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform under stress in fast-paced environments.
  • Professional appearance and grooming in line with company standards.
