Position Overview:
The Mass Spectrometry Core Facility serves as a premier laboratory providing access to advanced instrumentation, comprehensive training, and expert technical support for researchers.

Role Summary:
The Core Director will act as a technical authority and operational leader, responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of activities that support the core facility's functions. This includes:
  • Delivering training and mass spectrometry (MS) analysis assistance to researchers.
  • Facilitating hands-on learning experiences.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborating with vendors and faculty on proposals to enhance MS capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
The Director will engage in the following activities:
  • Identifying funding opportunities and contributing to grant writing.
  • Preparing manuscripts in collaboration with Salk research teams.
  • Offering training sessions, including workshops and seminars.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in proteomics, metabolomics, and/or stable isotope tracing, enabling support for a wide range of analytes in both targeted and untargeted analyses.

Core Facility Management:
The Director will:
  • Provide strategic leadership to ensure adherence to best practices in core facility operations, including data management, training, and quality assurance.
  • Assess and adapt core facility services based on researcher needs.
  • Oversee financial operations, including budgeting and billing.

Research Collaboration:
The Director will work closely with Salk researchers to:
  • Utilize cutting-edge MS technology to support research objectives.
  • Evaluate and implement new techniques and technologies.
  • Contribute to technical reports and manuscripts.

Institutional Development:
The Director will:
  • Design and lead training seminars relevant to current research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Technology Development to promote potential intellectual property.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A Master's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or a PhD with 4+ years of progressively complex experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Hands-on and theoretical knowledge of mass spectrometry technologies, particularly in proteomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics.
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis software.
