About the Department/Position:

Under the general oversight of the Associate Director of Admission, the Evaluator will conduct assessments of academic records to determine eligibility for admission. The role involves interpreting and applying relevant provisions of Title V California administrative code and university policies regarding admissions. The Evaluator will also provide guidance and information to applicants, students, and faculty concerning state and university degree requirements at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze documents from various educational institutions to ascertain equivalency of degrees and courses in relation to CSU standards.
  • Evaluate the accreditation status of institutions to determine credit acceptance.
  • Assess course equivalencies from external institutions against university requirements; establish admission eligibility based on evaluations.
  • Review courses for satisfaction of specific nontraditional credits and university general education requirements.
  • Offer guidance to ineligible students regarding educational pathways to achieve admission eligibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal training program in academic records evaluation or one year of relevant experience in academic records evaluation, or a combination of training and experience totaling 12 months.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the format and interpretation of academic records and transcripts from higher education institutions.
  • Expertise in authenticating course credits and comparing records from various formats, including international records.
  • Familiarity with campus curriculum requirements for majors, minors, terminal degrees, and special program designations.
  • Ability to maintain thoroughness, consistency, and accuracy in record interpretation against established criteria.
  • Capability to comprehend and apply complex regulations or requirements during the evaluation process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Experience: Previous work as a Graduation or Admissions Evaluator or related experience in a student services environment within a college or university. Equivalent to six months of responsible experience involving academic, administrative, fiscal, or statistical records processing and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in quantitative methods and data entry.
  • Knowledge of campus resource guidelines for making determinations based on various criteria.
  • Ability to maintain resources that document and update criteria.
  • Skill in explaining criteria and evaluations to others.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to organize work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to safeguarding the confidentiality and security of records.
