Role Summary

The Director of Citizenship and Immigration Legal Services plays a pivotal role in overseeing the citizenship program, which includes the management of workshops, volunteer coordination, and application processing services. This position is crucial for planning and executing integrated Citizenship and Immigration Legal services. The Director supervises staff and serves as the primary liaison with the Department of Justice, USCIS, and various community organizations involved in citizenship and immigration legal services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Citizenship and Immigration Legal Services program, fostering the growth of both staff and participants.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop staff to enhance their professional capabilities.
  • Stay informed on evolving legislation affecting citizenship and immigration law, ensuring program relevance.
  • Prepare and deliver timely reports to supervisors and funding partners.
  • Collaborate with other initiatives within Instituto to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders and community partners.
  • Assist in designing recruitment strategies for pro bono legal professionals.
  • Lead a cohesive team of DOJ and immigration legal staff, promoting a collaborative environment.
  • Implement best practices in team dynamics, marketing, and client service.
  • Manage budgets effectively, coordinating with finance staff for future planning and expense reviews.
  • Exhibit cultural sensitivity towards clients while providing proactive leadership to staff.
  • Engage with community leaders and elected officials to promote program objectives.
  • Organize stakeholder meetings for program evaluation and planning.
  • Assess and suggest improvements to the department's business model, including a robust fee-for-service structure.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a relevant field.
  • DOJ accreditation or substantial experience in immigration law.
  • Experience conducting Citizenship workshops and understanding the immigrant community's needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, with bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Strong telephone communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated project management abilities, with attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Capacity to meet deadlines and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications.
