ROLE SUMMARY

The Chief of Citizenship and Immigration Legal Services oversees the strategic coordination and execution of the citizenship initiative, which includes direct or indirect management of workshops, volunteer engagement, and application processing services. This role is pivotal in planning and facilitating integrated Citizenship and Immigration Legal services. The Chief supervises a team and acts as the primary liaison with the Department of Justice, USCIS, and various community partners involved in citizenship and immigration legal services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide visionary leadership to the Citizenship and Immigration Legal Services program, empowering both staff and participants to reach their maximum potential.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop staff, ensuring ongoing professional growth opportunities.
  • Stay informed on evolving legislation affecting citizenship and immigration law, ensuring program adaptability.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports to supervisors and funding bodies as required.
  • Collaborate with other programs and initiatives within Instituto to enhance service delivery.
  • Build and maintain robust relationships with funders and programmatic partners.
  • Assist in designing recruitment strategies for pro bono legal professionals.
  • Work collaboratively with department colleagues, fostering a harmonious team environment among DOJ and citizenship and immigration legal staff.
  • Apply current research on best practices for team dynamics, marketing, and customer service.
  • Implement approved budgets and assist in planning future financial strategies, coordinating with finance staff for monthly expense reviews.
  • Exhibit cultural sensitivity towards clients and provide proactive leadership to staff.
  • Effectively communicate with community leaders and elected officials.
  • Organize stakeholders and Instituto personnel for program planning and evaluation.
  • Analyze and suggest enhancements to the department's business model, emphasizing a strong fee-for-service approach.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree preferred; a Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational background is required.
  • A minimum of two years of significant supervisory experience in the relevant field.
  • DOJ accreditation or substantial experience in immigration law.
  • Experience conducting Citizenship workshops and familiarity with critical issues affecting the immigrant community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficient in both team collaboration and independent work with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to delivering superior customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong telephone communication skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities, attention to detail, and effective multitasking skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, respond swiftly to unexpected events, and manage conflicts resourcefully.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role necessitates the ability to operate standard office equipment, communicate effectively, compile and prepare documentation, and maintain organized work files.
