Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize engineering expertise to ensure reactor designs meet specified criteria.
  • Engage in the design and implementation phases, applying advanced engineering principles.
  • Maintain operational readiness of assigned systems and components to facilitate ongoing nuclear operations.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of design requirements, system performance metrics, and maintenance protocols.
  • Supervise design documentation produced by reactor designers or subcontractors.
  • Establish quality standards, oversee startup activities, and manage documentation revisions.
  • Conduct design modifications to enhance existing structures and create new designs for engineering projects.
  • Perform mechanical and structural calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Participate in structural engineering projects, collaborating with external firms for specific design tasks.
  • Execute code compliance assessments per ASME BPVC Section III and AISC N690, along with other relevant standards.
  • Ensure adherence to INL Engineering Standards and DOE Orders in all engineering activities.
  • Analyze and evaluate structures/systems in line with ASME BPVC Section III.
  • Evaluate advanced microreactor designs against DOE seismic standards and other natural hazard criteria.
  • Utilize finite element analysis software for structural evaluations.
  • Assess situations affecting structural integrity and public safety.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to resolve Structural/Civil challenges.
  • Complete various engineering tasks, including design, analysis, and maintenance activities.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering with 5-8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3-6+ years of experience.
  • Professional Engineering License in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
