The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a skilled Nuclear Engineer to contribute to our Measurement Sciences division. This role involves a 9x80 work schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, and is based at our Research Education facility.
Your primary responsibility will be to utilize nuclear engineering principles to design, evaluate, and test nuclear systems and equipment. You will also explore innovative materials pertinent to radiation detection, nuclear fuels, and reactor technologies. Conducting studies related to radiation detection and contamination control will be a key aspect of your role, reporting directly to the Measurement Sciences manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with designers, analysts, and stakeholders to define experimental and packaging requirements for spent nuclear fuel.
- Employ advanced nuclear engineering design methodologies and principles to break down project objectives into clear and manageable design specifications.
- Implement best practices in design methodologies and technologies to ensure that designs meet established requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of designs, including models, drawings, specifications, and descriptions, to demonstrate compliance with applicable standards.
- Establish quality assurance measures, testing, and inspection protocols to uphold the integrity of design responsibilities.
- Oversee fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement processes to ensure adherence to design specifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with no prior experience.
- This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Compensation Information:
- Salary range for this position is as follows: Level 1 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496). Compensation is determined based on education, relevant experience, and other qualifications.

- This is a testing designated position; candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug screening and periodic testing during employment.
