Salary Range: $125,000-$135,000

Position Overview

The Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC) serves as a visionary leader dedicated to enhancing the brand identity of The Washington Ballet and The Washington School of Ballet. This role is pivotal in engaging a diverse array of stakeholders, ensuring that the organization remains prominent in the minds of potential audience members across all demographics.

The DMC is tasked with driving engagement through strategic marketing initiatives aimed at increasing enrollment in educational programs and boosting attendance at public performances. By translating the artistic vision of TWB into targeted messaging, the DMC seeks to maximize revenue streams, including ticket sales and merchandise.

In collaboration with the Board of Directors' Marketing Committee and senior leadership, the DMC will oversee the marketing strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals while enhancing brand visibility and audience engagement. This includes developing pricing strategies and fostering interdepartmental collaboration to optimize revenue from various sources.

The DMC will manage the marketing budget, ensuring that all strategies are financially sustainable and aligned with the organization's mission. This role requires close collaboration with senior staff, external vendors, and board members to effectively lead a team focused on communications, marketing, audience engagement, and patron services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze historical data to develop strategies that enhance audience engagement and drive departmental activities.
  • Design and implement programs that utilize data to boost revenue through increased attendance and customer loyalty.
  • Enhance the organization's market presence within the arts and entertainment sectors, fostering relationships that convert ticket buyers into donors.
  • Identify partnership opportunities with peer organizations and represent TWB in local and national forums.
  • Seek public relations opportunities to promote the organization’s initiatives and community impact.
  • Lead the Marketing and Communications Department, overseeing recruitment, management, and professional development of staff.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen brand reputation and maximize revenue.
  • Mentor colleagues on marketing strategies and manage relationships with audience members and stakeholders.
  • Develop and adhere to the marketing budget, ensuring compliance with vendor contracts.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing tools and strategies using data analytics.
  • Manage vendor relationships to enhance brand presence and ticket sales.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to leverage community engagement opportunities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technology that can enhance revenue generation.
  • Oversee merchandise programs to boost revenue across various platforms.
  • Supervise key marketing personnel and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in Marketing/Public Relations, preferably within the arts or non-profit sector, with 4 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in branding, marketing, communications, and ticket sales.
  • Strong understanding of market trends and audience dynamics.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Familiarity with video production and digital marketing platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and collaborative abilities.
  • Experience in staff management and effective communication with senior leadership.
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Able to thrive in high-pressure environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ballet as an art form.
  • Experience with ticketing systems.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and design software.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
