I. POSITION SUMMARY

The Office of Communications and Marketing plays a pivotal role in enhancing the university's image and effectively narrating the story of GW through various channels, including digital platforms, publications, multimedia, and marketing initiatives. This office is instrumental in strategizing and executing efforts to showcase the university's experts, projects, and achievements.

The Director of Communications and Marketing will lead the communication strategies for the George Washington University Law School, aligning with the broader marketing and communication objectives of the institution. This role encompasses the oversight, enhancement, and expansion of the law school's communication platforms, including the website, social media, newsletters, and print materials, ensuring they align with the overall strategic vision.

As a key member of the law school's leadership team, the Director will collaborate closely with faculty and senior administration to continuously refine the law school's communication practices in accordance with industry standards and strategic marketing initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing, with accountability to the Dean of the Law School, this position is vital in advancing the mission of GW Law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive strategy to enhance the law school's reputation.
  • Oversee and manage key communication channels.
  • Lead website development and management initiatives.
  • Foster partnerships across university departments to ensure a unified communication approach.
  • Coordinate with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Direct marketing and communication efforts across various platforms.
  • Conduct reporting and analysis of communication strategies.
  • Manage media relations and crisis communication.
  • Support internal communication initiatives.
  • Assist the Dean with communication-related tasks.
  • Provide leadership for event communications.
  • Oversee the production of print and digital publications.
  • Develop communication strategies for admissions and marketing.
  • Enhance alumni and development communication partnerships.

Additional Duties:

Perform other related responsibilities as assigned. The absence of specific duties does not prevent the supervisor from assigning tasks that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field along with 8 years of pertinent professional experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of relevant experience. Degrees must be conferred by the start date of employment. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of digital media and website management.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with higher education or legal education is advantageous.
  • Experience in developing and implementing new systems and strategies.
  • Proven track record in coordinating multi-channel campaigns.
  • Experience in a higher education setting with leadership of matrixed staff.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure and ambiguity.
  • Able to engage with a diverse population at all levels, facilitating decision-making and conflict resolution.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven leader.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $202,964.70.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position requiring on-site work with a hybrid telework option available.
