Job Description:
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Training Specialist II to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating training programs for our state hospital program area. This is a journey-level training role that requires a strong background in adult education and training delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and conduct training programs for new employees during New Employee Orientation (NEO) and Refresher Training.
  • Monitor all employees in the program area to ensure their training is up to date.
  • Track, collect, and email permanent HR documents to Facility Support Services Competency Training and Development (FCTD).
  • Create and maintain a training database to track compliance with required training.
  • Receive training reports monthly from FCTD and review and monitor due dates.
  • Work under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Attend work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
  • Collaborate with the state hospital program area staff to identify and address training needs.
  • Develop curriculum specific to the program area and evaluate training programs by performing competency evaluations of staff through examinations or demonstrations.
  • Assist in analyzing training content for accessibility to make content accessible to fit the needs of the patients served for physical, psychological and/or age-related learning disabilities.
  • Train new employees during New Employee Orientation (NEO) on program area requirements and conducts refresher training as needed.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs.
  • Knowledge of training procedures/techniques.
  • Skills in preparing training classes.
  • Skills in using computer-based programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other software programs.
  • Clinical skills in recording vital signs, using mechanical lifts, and Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
  • Skills in maintaining records and developing and maintaining databases.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds, education levels, and different learning styles; and ability to train others.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Training, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in training and development.

Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Security Clearance:
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds, education levels, and different learning styles; and ability to train others.
