Job Summary

Friends of Children and Families is seeking a skilled Human Resources Generalist to join our team. As a key member of our HR department, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and administering our Human Resources programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage the Human Resources Specialist
  • Perform professional-level human resources work, including staffing, recruitment, hiring, employee relations, compensation, training, employment, labor relations, safety, affirmative action, and employment equity programs
  • Develop and recommend improvements to our Employee Handbook, HR policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and improve the effectiveness of human resources and operations
  • Establish and maintain employee record systems
  • Advise on recruitment, selection, and hiring practices and requirements
  • Train safety practices to ensure a safe work environment and oversee all workers' compensation issues
  • Maintain effective communications with others, including guiding, training, coaching, and mentoring of staff
  • Engage in effective interpersonal relations with co-workers, families, and the general public
  • Conduct equal employment opportunity (EEO) outreach activities
  • Review personnel activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, city, and agency policies and procedures
  • Consult, advise, and train supervisors in human resource issues
  • Investigate human resource concerns and make recommendations to management
  • Implement a parent and volunteer training program
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements for a wage comparability study
  • Maintain compliance with all state and city licensing requirements
  • Work closely with the agency's fiscal office to assist in the implementation of employee benefit programs
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate job descriptions
  • Represent the organization on one community group related to their program area
  • Keep supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress and organizational issues
  • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to become and remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in human resources, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of HR principles, practices, and laws, including EEO and labor relations
