Position Overview

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Child Life Support Specialist engages in essential psychosocial activities tailored to children and their families, providing emotional assistance and identifying opportunities to recommend and implement approved coping strategies.

Key Responsibilities

1. **Psychosocial Care**: Deliver planned, routine psychosocial support for children and families aimed at alleviating stress, enhancing adaptive coping mechanisms, and promoting developmental integrity through opportunities for play, learning, and social interaction in a safe environment.

2. **Therapeutic Play**: Utilize developmentally appropriate play experiences as a primary tool to assess and address the psychosocial needs of children within the healthcare setting. Activities are tailored to align with the patient's care plan, condition, and individual needs.

3. **Activity Coordination**: Organize and set up activity areas to facilitate planned, approved activities. Create a welcoming atmosphere by introducing oneself and clarifying the role upon initial contact with patients and families.

4. **Facilitation of Play**: Provide opportunities for and lead planned play and activities designed to foster self-healing, self-expression, understanding, and mastery in both individual and group settings.

5. **Family Support**: Offer basic emotional support and stress reduction techniques during identified stress points, while also providing guidance to family members to help them adapt to the child's health challenges and manage their own stress.

Qualifications

- A Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Sociology, or a related psychosocial field is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
- Completion of a Child Life Internship with a minimum of 600 hours under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist is mandatory.
- Child Life Certification is required within 12 months of hire.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $58,500 - $79,300 per year. This range represents a good faith estimate of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant at the time of this job advertisement and may be subject to future modifications.
