Position Overview

The Children's Residential Services Program is dedicated to supporting children and adolescents aged 5 to 18 who are facing significant emotional or behavioral challenges. These young individuals often require more intensive treatment after previous interventions have not been successful. AltaPointe Health provides a nurturing and structured environment, offering developmentally appropriate therapeutic services around the clock. The program also focuses on assisting families or caregivers in fostering and enhancing their relationships with the child or adolescent throughout the treatment and discharge process. Specialized care is available for those diagnosed with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, ensuring comprehensive support tailored to individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

As an LPN in a healthcare setting, your duties will include:

  • Conducting the admission process for clients, which encompasses: Medical Checklist, Physical Health assessments, Nutritional screenings, Medication Lists, Medication Administration Records, vital signs, height/weight measurements, transcribing physician orders, AIMS evaluations, and admission documentation.
  • Monitoring client behavior during group activities, documenting observations in client records, and collaborating with the treatment team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Delivering nursing care and providing direction to behavioral staff and CNAs as necessary.
  • Assisting clients with personal care needs, including bathing, toileting, and hygiene routines.
  • Administering medications while adhering to the Six Rights of medication administration.
  • Educating clients and their families about medications, including their uses and potential side effects, while monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting findings to the physician.
  • Effectively communicating with physicians regarding clients' physical and mental health conditions.
  • Demonstrating flexibility by working in various units as needed, based on facility requirements.
  • Engaging with the multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the development of individualized treatment plans.
  • Coordinating with laboratories to request and monitor test results, reporting any abnormal findings to the physician.
  • Providing emergency care as required, including CPR and administering PRN medications, in accordance with AltaPointe policies.
  • Recognizing and de-escalating crisis situations effectively.
  • Assisting with Seclusion and Restraints in compliance with AltaPointe policies.
  • Exhibiting professional ethics and maintaining documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participating in performance improvement initiatives and attending required training sessions to maintain licensure.
Physical Requirements

The role involves:

  • Frequent standing, sitting, and walking, with the ability to adapt positions based on client needs.
  • Occasional bending and squatting to assist clients.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds to support clients in daily activities.
  • Maintaining physical readiness to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Qualifications

Current LPN licensure in Alabama is required.
