Responsibilities:

VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE
PRN RATE - $30.90/HR
Engages in family-centered nursing in accordance with established policies and the Nurse Practice Act; assumes the role of Charge Nurse when designated; oversees, plans, evaluates, and coordinates patient care rendered by both licensed and unlicensed personnel; demonstrates CPR in alignment with American Heart Association standards; adheres to and enforces all compliance regulations and policies, performing duties ethically and in line with organizational values; maintains confidentiality as per hospital policies; serves as a mentor for new staff and nursing students; remains available in the hospital within thirty to forty-five minutes of being called; employs the nursing process to: assess patients, devise personalized care plans, identify anticipated outcomes, and implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and their families; delivers direct patient care according to unit-specific competencies: executes therapeutic procedures and assists with diagnostic tasks essential for patient care; administers medications, including controlled substances, through all routes; responds effectively to emergency patient scenarios; performs basic life support and manages critical situations; initiates IVs; carries out daily living activities; requires minimal supervision to safely deliver patient care; when executing skilled procedures, the RN articulates the purpose, rationale, precautions, and observations pertinent to that procedure; utilizes appropriate body mechanics when: moving, positioning, and transferring patients independently or with assistance as necessary for patient safety or when handling equipment essential for performing core functions; engages in patient/family education and documentation; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information System; communicates and employs suitable customer service skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare teams in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; maintains precise and comprehensive medical records by: utilizing correct documentation tools and procedures, completing peri-operative assessments within unit time frames, and accurately processing patient charges; accepts and fulfills all responsibilities positively and without conflict; collaborates, assists others, and enhances unit performance; completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements; employs cost-effective practices in all job aspects; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; accepts reassignment to other areas of Surgical Services with a constructive attitude; demonstrates the capability to provide competent patient care to diverse patient populations: Neonate, Infant-Toddler/Preschool, School Age/Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal; manages peri-operative patients using aseptic principles and initiates corrective actions when breaches occur; operates advanced technical equipment; participates in the evaluation of new products; maintains adequate supplies for procedural requirements; provides appropriate care to specimens and cultures as directed by established Policies and Procedures; performs scrub and circulating duties; establishes and maintains a sterile environment; keeps unit-specific quality control logs; inspects sterile items for contamination/outdates before use; accompanies patients to PACU and delivers suitable handoff communication; monitors and sustains the peri-operative environment (i.e.

temperature, traffic, aseptic technique); performs sponge and sharp counts and initiates corrective actions when discrepancies arise; communicates/documents results of counts in accordance with facility policy; oversees labeling of medications on the sterile field and is responsible for accurate mixing/dosing; utilizes two patient identifiers when transporting, transferring a patient, labeling specimens, or administering medications; actively engages in all unit-based activities concerning NPSGS such as Thromboembolytic Prevention, Pre-op antibiotic administration 1 Hour prior to incision, Beta Blocker administration prior to surgery, Universal Protocol, and labeling medications on the sterile field; consistently demonstrates an understanding of patient safety in daily practice regarding: fall prevention, positioning, transfers, surgical site identification, electrosurgical safety, laser safety, fire in the OR, and signs and symptoms of malignant hyperpyrexia; retrieves cases using the surgeon preference card; ensures all supplies necessary for assigned cases are available and within date when cases are retrieved; ensures cases are properly set up before transferring patients to the room; actively participates in unit-based educational activities (i.e. role-playing or return demonstrations); utilizes downtime between cases effectively to support unit cleanliness, appropriate stock levels, and additional duties; completes vendor notification forms for implant tracking; actively engages in unit-based recycling/reprocessing activities; ensures medical record requirements are present and reviewed prior to transferring patients to the OR, such as Pre-op orders, H&P with updated signature, consults, labs, consent, and Medicaid tubal/hysterectomy consents as appropriate; consistently demonstrates an understanding of teamwork; identifies, organizes, and directs activities to utilize resources, personnel, and materials to meet the needs of patients and nursing staff; communicates with the Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator regularly regarding: changes in unit status, patient-related issues, staffing concerns, Quality Management issues, and other evolving events; acts as the first line in problem resolution with other departments and addresses any patient complaints; assists with shift duty assignments or serves as a staff nurse as required; verifies that emergency equipment is operational; participates in committees as assigned; engages in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records; maintains regular and prompt attendance; ability to work as scheduled and fulfill overtime and call requirements; performs related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program and possession of a current Alabama RN license or a current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama.
