Join the Parks and Wildlife Department as a Police Communications Operator I and play a critical role in ensuring public safety and emergency management in Texas.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Police Communications Operator I. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for providing critical support to law enforcement agencies and emergency responders in times of crisis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency communications support to law enforcement agencies and emergency responders
  • Operate complex communication systems, including radio and telephone equipment
  • Respond to high-risk incidents and provide critical support to emergency responders
  • Coordinate with other agencies and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and response
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of communications and incidents
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year of experience in dispatch, telephone, police, and emergency management communications work
  • Must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Basic Telecommunicators Course and Crisis Communications certification within six months of employment
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) State Telecommunicators examination within one year of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Police Communication Operator
  • College coursework in Criminal Justice
  • Current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Telecommunicator license, DPS
  • TCIC/NCIC Full Access and Interpol Certifications
  • Basic Telecommunication Proficiency Certification
Working Conditions

Must reside, or relocate to, within 50 air miles of duty station. Required to work 40 hours per week, with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Required to work on holidays, weekends, and hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as necessary. Required to work overtime as necessary. Required to adjust to changing schedules. Required to work a permanent or rotating shift. Required to perform independent shift work often without breaks. Required to respond to on-call situations. Required to perform work in a confined work environment. Must be able to work during inclement and sometimes hazardous weather conditions. Required to pass a national fingerprint-based background check to maintain employment. May be required to operate a State vehicle. Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays. Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures. Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
