Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a skilled individual to join our team as a full-time Accessibility Compliance Specialist. In this role, you will partner with our client to assess, analyze, and validate user interfaces, ensuring adherence to Section 508 accessibility standards. Your expertise will also be instrumental in advising on the technical application of digital accessibility protocols within client systems.

NOTE: Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Green Card Holders and eligible to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Work Arrangement: Remote

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute, document, and report on both manual and automated evaluations of all Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products. This includes planning, monitoring, assigning tasks, auditing, quality control, and distributing audit findings.
  • Educate teams on digital accessibility best practices, providing resources such as development checklists to foster proactive compliance.
  • Monitor and report on metrics related to ICT compliance, identifying challenges and celebrating successes.
  • Exhibit a solid understanding of accessibility tools, web development technologies, and their implications for user experience.
  • Implement and be familiar with Executive Order M-24-08, issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
  • Conduct Section 508 compliance assessments in accordance with the United States Access Board's ICT standards.
  • Perform manual and automated evaluations across various environments, including legacy formats, modern formats (HTML, Java), web applications, desktop applications, surveys, forms, documents, and other artifacts.
  • Experience with JAWS/NVDA for Section 508 evaluations is essential; familiarity with CommonLook Office/PDF is advantageous.
  • Assist instructional designers in creating web-based training materials that comply with Section 508/ADA standards.
  • Ensure internal quality assurance for Section 508/ADA by testing training materials with screen readers and other assistive technologies prior to client delivery.
  • Present testing outcomes to clients and engage in follow-up discussions and conference calls to develop a strategy for enhancing IT system accessibility and usability.
  • Provide regular Section 508 metrics and comprehensive reports.
  • Advise clients on the effective implementation of Section 508 standards across diverse systems, including web, mobile, hardware, and document systems.
  • Validate interfaces against technical specifications. Familiarity with DHS Trusted Tester methodologies is a plus.
  • Guide clients on establishing accessibility processes within their environments.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail in documentation and the ability to convey complex topics clearly in discussions.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in technology or a related field, or 8 years of relevant experience as a substitute for a degree.
  • 5+ years of proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • 5+ years of experience with accessibility tools such as JAWS, Dragon Naturally Speaking, ZoomText, and ZoomText Fusion.
  • 5+ years of experience with Section 508 compliance, IT accessibility regulations, and policies.
  • Extensive experience in manually evaluating ICT products for Section 508 compliance and documenting defects.
  • Proven track record in ensuring 508 compliance for both IT hardware and software, including redesigning or developing solutions for compliance challenges.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully pass a background investigation.
