**Senior Compliance Specialist - Washington, DC

Compensation:
$177,251.41

(Salary based on experience)

Role Summary:

The Senior Compliance Specialist is responsible for strategizing and executing compliance initiatives, resolving conflicts, collaborating with team members, and independently interpreting regulatory policies.

The contractor will ensure the government is updated on progress, significant issues, or potentially contentious matters.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Bachelor's Degree is mandatory.
A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in government compliance is essential.
A valid passport is required.
Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally may be necessary.
Experience in regulatory compliance is a must.
Familiarity with ITAR and AECA compliance is required.
Demonstrated good judgment and ability to work under supervision.
Strong interpersonal skills and capability to resolve conflicts professionally and promptly.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities. Candidates should be ready to provide writing samples.
Organizational skills are critical, including the ability to manage multiple projects within established timelines.
Ability to analyze information and formulate recommendations for management based on thorough analysis.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and adept at operating standard office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, scanners, printers, and computers.


Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and update the State Department's Watch List database of entities of concern to ensure compliance with the AECA and support foreign policy through arms export licensing.

Assist in identifying and implementing technical enhancements to the system.
Review license requests referred from DTCL to confirm compliance with registration requirements.
Initiate inquiries and gather necessary documentation from U.S. parties or other program elements. Prepare final actions for senior staff approval.

Support team efforts to enhance capabilities, adapt to workload changes, and uphold high-quality work standards.

Coordinate and collaborate with the interagency non-proliferation and export control community on arms trafficking and proliferation issues related to the AECA and ITAR, along with international export control outreach.

Work alongside licensing offices on compliance and enforcement issues, including license suspensions, revocations, denials, and eligibility for defense trade participation.

Assist in coordinating departmental plans and operations to identify and prevent violations of U.S. export laws and regulations, supporting remedial actions such as civil enforcement or prosecution of violators of the AECA/ITAR.

In collaboration with other DTCC staff, engage in proactive outreach to the U.S. and foreign defense sectors to promote adherence to U.S. export laws and regulations. Participate in government and industry conferences and Company Visit program activities. Address inquiries related to compliance matters.
