Position Summary
The 508 Compliance Specialist serves as a vital subject matter expert within a federal CIO organization, responsible for the management, development, and implementation of accessibility standards for end users, both internal and external.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Offer expert guidance and consultation to key stakeholders regarding compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as modified by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.
  • Ensure that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) items meet accessibility requirements in accordance with Section 508 compliance standards.
  • Evaluate ICT for adherence to the latest Section 508 standards.
  • Utilize universal design principles to ensure ICT products or services are accessible to users with disabilities.
  • Generate Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACR).
  • Outline plans for features that do not fully comply with Section 508 Standards.
  • Detail typical user scenarios and tasks, including those involving individuals with disabilities, to guarantee thorough and accurate accessibility testing of ICT products or services.
  • Oversee 508 compliance projects from inception to completion.
  • Deliver training on 508 compliance as required.

Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of professional experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience specifically with 508 compliance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess or be able to obtain government clearance (public trust).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • In-depth knowledge of Section 508 Conformance standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise feedback.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience in assessing information and technology compliance with Section 508 standards.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies.
  • Experience with design applications for creating communication assets.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within government or large enterprise environments is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certification in accessibility (e.g., IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies) is a plus.

Work Environment and Schedule:

  • This role is primarily remote, with potential in-office meetings as necessary.
  • Availability during core hours of 9am-5pm (eastern time) on weekdays is required.
