Job Summary

LifeSpan is seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Sedation Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our pediatric critical care team, you will provide direct patient care to in/out patients requiring sedation for procedures and radiological exams.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct family-centered patient care, evaluating the effectiveness of patient care and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Utilize all available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Coordinator PNP to develop family-centered standards and protocols for the management of pediatric sedation.
  • Provide leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel.
  • Document care in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, patient, family, and community services regarding patient care outcome/discharge planning.
  • Assess and provide appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs, including pre/post sedation needs.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
  • Meet and maintain clinical competencies measured by pre-determined credentialing standards, mandatory/safety education, and completion of Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS as appropriate.
  • Identify growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
  • Serve as a role model/preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel.
  • Participate on hospital/nursing/community committees.
  • Perform some administrative duties as necessary.
Requirements
  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing or commensurate experience preferred.
  • BLS and PALS certification.
  • Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Minimum of two years experience in Pediatric Critical Care areas with demonstrated ability in Pediatric emergency IV insertion and maintenance, airway management, and assessment.
  • Working knowledge of sedation medications and pharmacology.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
  • Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.
  • Exposed to patient care environment.
  • Physical ability for extensive walking and standing; lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers.
