Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager and under the clinical coordination of the Pediatric Sedation Nurse Practitioner Coordinator, this role provides direct patient care to in/out patients requiring sedation for but not limited to procedures and radiological exams.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct family-centered patient care.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Utilizes all available resources to provide quality cost-effective patient care.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator PNP, develops family-centered standards and protocols for the management of pediatric sedation.
  • Provides leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel.
  • Documents care in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team, patient, family, and community services regarding the patient care outcome/discharge planning.
  • Assesses and provides appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs, including pre/post sedation needs.
  • Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
  • Meets and maintains clinical competencies measured by pre-determined credentialing standards, mandatory/safety education, and completion of Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS as appropriate.
  • Identifies growth needs and participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
  • Serves as a role model/preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel.
  • Participates on hospital/nursing/community committees.
  • Performs some administrative duties as necessary.
Requirements
  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing or commensurate experience preferred.
  • BLS and PALS certification.
  • Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Experience
  • Minimum of two years experience in Pediatric Critical Care areas with demonstrated ability in Pediatric emergency IV insertion and maintenance, airway management, and assessment.
  • Working knowledge of sedation medications and pharmacology.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
  • Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.
  • Exposed to patient care environment.
  • Physical ability for extensive walking and standing; lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers.
