Patient Access Coordinator I

Position Overview:
The Patient Access Coordinator I is responsible for facilitating the smooth and organized admission process for both inpatient and outpatient services. This role ensures that precise patient data is gathered and that individuals are informed about the facility's policies and procedures.

- Patient Registration: Accurately registers all patients in accordance with departmental protocols. Completes all necessary admission forms, including consent documentation, with attention to detail. Verifies the medical record status using the Master Patient Index function prior to entering patient information into the system.
- Insurance Verification: Ensures that each account is eligible for billing and that pre-certification requirements are fulfilled. Communicates with physician offices to gather necessary pre-admission information. Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility, ensuring that patients possess the required authorizations for scheduled procedures.
- Communication Duties: Operates the PBX system, managing incoming calls and directing them to the appropriate departments or patient rooms. Conducts paging operations via overhead systems as needed, including the announcement of emergency codes.
- Physician Authorization: Confirms that physicians are authorized to admit patients and appropriately refers any on the delinquency list to the hospital administrator or designated personnel.
- Safety and Confidentiality: Maintains a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Upholds the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year experience in a customer service role
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Effective time management abilities
- Capability to multitask and manage workload efficiently
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Proficiency in computer usage
- Demonstrated customer service aptitude
- Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card within 30 days of hire (specific locations only)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting
- One year of experience in an admitting office or as a PBX operator
- Bilingual abilities to effectively communicate with patients and families
