Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at Samuel Contract Staffing. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing treatment care to patients in our Medicaid Assisted Treatment Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Initial Assessments: Engage patients in the initial treatment process, conducting preliminary assessments of eligibility and preparing intake forms.
  • Provide Ongoing Support: Hold regularly scheduled sessions with patients to address their problems and psycho-social needs, ensuring that services are coordinated to meet each assessed need.
  • Lead Therapy Groups: Conduct therapy groups and assist patients in identifying and defining problems.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure all necessary forms are completed and maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
  • Participate in Training and Development: Attend training seminars to enhance treatment techniques and theories, and obtain the CASAC credential.
  • Collaborate with Other Disciplines: Hold individual conferences with other disciplines to facilitate effective treatment and participate in case conferences.
  • Meet Clinical Supervision Requirements: Meet weekly for clinical supervision with the Behavioral Health Supervisor to discuss work performed, problems encountered, and case conferences.
  • Refer to Other Disciplines: Refer patients to other clinic disciplines as necessary.
  • Provide Vocational/Educational Support: Provide vocational/educational assessment, counseling, and follow-up for patients, as well as voc/ed support and follow-up as required.
  • Complete Vocational Profile Forms: Complete the Vocational Profile Form (HS 305) for each caseload patient.
  • Provide Counseling and Referrals: Provide counseling toward vocational/educational readiness, motivation for vocational rehabilitation, and referrals to voc/ed programs.
  • Meet with Vocational Specialist and Education Specialist: Meet periodically with the Vocational Specialist and Education Specialist for case consultation and feedback.
  • Present Vocational Treatment Objectives: Present vocational treatment objectives at each IDT.
  • Work on a Rotation Basis: Work on a rotation basis on Saturdays and select holidays, with assigned shifts subject to change at the discretion of the Clinical Director.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Two (2) years of work experience in Human Services providing treatment care, with minimal two (2) years of satisfactory experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
  • Credentials: CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) required.
  • Skills: Possess a demonstrated ability in delivering patient treatment, including communication skills, successful engagement in specialized Human Services training, understanding of human interaction and personality development, and the ability to write and record case documentation.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiar with Regulatory Agency Regulations regarding the operation and practices of patient care.
  • Group Dynamics: Understanding of group dynamics is essential.
  • Computer Literacy: Must be computer-literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and competent in computerized programs that support treatment plans and case notes.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to participate in various committees and work well with others in team settings.
  • Bilingual: Bilingual in any language a plus.
