Job Title: Sound Designer

ESPN Creative Studio is a dynamic unit within the Content division, comprising Motion Graphics, Edit, Visual Storytelling, Production Enhancements, and Innovations teams. As a Sound Designer, you will be part of a collaborative environment that conceptualizes, develops, and executes content creation across all domestic and international ESPN distribution platforms.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee audio projects, collaborating with Production partners to ensure seamless execution.
  • Develop editors' audio sweetening skillset, aligning with sound design workflows.
  • Maintain industry knowledge, staying updated on audio sweetening trends and best practices.
  • Develop creative opportunities with production partners and collaborators to optimize resource allocation and achieve desired results.
  • Oversee and audio sweeten a wide range of assignments and equipment within the Sound Design environment, demonstrating expertise.
  • Knowledge of project specifications, equipment, and troubleshooting practices is essential.
  • Recommend adjustments and project needs while maintaining maximum creativity and flexibility.
  • Assist the team in implementing development initiatives to enhance creativity and audio competency of the Edit staff.
  • Ability to train and learn new techniques and software platforms that align with industry needs and trends is crucial.
  • Basic knowledge of troubleshooting equipment and software issues is required.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of audio sweetening or related audio experience is necessary.
  • Mixing experience utilizing Avid Pro Tools is required.
  • Knowledge of time-based processing (reverb, delay, etc.) and spectral processing (EQ, filters, etc.) is essential.
  • Ability to work in a team under tight deadlines is critical.
  • Candidates must have good computer background (MS Office, Slack, OneDrive, file formatting, etc.) and good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and flexibility to work overtime and alter shifts/days off to accommodate projects and departmental objectives is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Avid Pro tools and signal flow is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sound effects libraries and sfx librarian software such as Soundminer is beneficial.
  • Experience using noise reduction tools to clean dialogue such as Izotope RX is an asset.
  • Familiarity with sound for picture workflows and ability to search, cut, and conform sound effects and music to picture is desirable.
  • Skilled in dialogue, sound effects, and music editing, and ability to organize sound effects libraries is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Media Encoder and in-depth knowledge of sound design and audio sweetening is beneficial.
  • Bilingual (written and spoken) in both English and Spanish is an asset.
Required Education:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Sound Recording, Audio, Music, or related field is preferred.
  • Vocational School or related experience is beneficial.
