The primary music liaison is responsible for overseeing, securing, and organizing music assets for designated productions. Collaborating closely with the Creative Director of Music, this role involves obtaining music rights and developing musical concepts alongside ESPN content creators. It is essential to ensure that all ESPN productions comply with music policies and adhere to the compliance standards set forth by the Coordinating Director of Music and the Creative Director of Music.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the main point of contact for assigned ESPN projects and productions under the guidance of the Creative Director of Music.
- Provide support to in-house producers and external contractors regarding music protocols, standards, and policies.
- Coordinate and deliver music packages for series and seasonal productions.
- Prepare and manage clearance requests, status reports for productions, and liaise with clearance houses until execution and payment are completed.
- Negotiate, draft, review, and monitor licensing agreements in collaboration with the Licensing team until finalization and payment.
- Facilitate the evaluation of third-party contracts and guide external producers on ESPN Music policy requirements.
- Oversee compliance for cue sheet reporting for assigned programs.
- Engage in regular meetings with production teams to strategize the use of music elements within budget constraints.
- Manage and review the clearance of commercial music for broadcasts.
- Edit thematic, commercial, and library music cuts as necessary.
- Conduct ongoing quality assessments of seasonal thematic music packages.
- Evaluate and recommend music selections for specific shows and related projects.
- Oversee the organization of theme and support music, accessing music libraries to maintain and refresh audio sources for assigned shows.
- Assist team members with routine music-related projects and tasks as required.
- Coordinate with production and legal teams for any necessary music licensing for productions.
- Actively participate in selecting music themes and elements for assigned productions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in music licensing within the broadcasting industry.
- Ability to make or recommend music-related decisions subject to management review.
- Experience in translating project requirements into music concepts and selections.
- Work effectively within defined processes, artistic direction, and project objectives.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities with a passion for excellence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Capability to meet critical deadlines in challenging situations.
- Stay informed about trends in popular music.
- Proficient in both Mac and PC operating systems, including MS Word and MS Excel or similar applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish.
- Experience in music licensing within the broadcasting sector.
- Familiarity with music editing software such as Sound Forge or Adobe Audition; knowledge of ProTools is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of ESPN's music standards and policies.
Required Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's Degree.
