Position Summary

We are seeking experienced Chief Engineers to join our team. The Chief Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reliable operation of equipment and systems, thereby extending their lifespan. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all equipment and systems are maintained effectively.
  • Managing the availability of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Strict adherence to Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Maintaining accurate records of equipment repair history.
  • Minimizing equipment breakdowns and failures.
  • Completing all necessary reports within specified timeframes.

The Chief Engineer is also responsible for developing repair strategies, overseeing preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives, and providing technical training to Operations and Maintenance (O&M) staff. This role involves supervising skilled technical work related to the maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, and other critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer directly supervises all O&M personnel and activities, which encompass:

  • HVAC systems (including Building Automation Systems)
  • Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems
  • Fire Life Safety systems
  • Elevator operations
  • Water Treatment services
  • Locksmith services
  • Utilities Equipment and Systems
  • Architectural and Structural systems

In this role, the Chief Engineer will allocate on-site staff as needed to fulfill assigned tasks, utilizing the Work Order Schedule as a framework for labor, materials, and equipment deployment. Responsibilities also include:

  • Ensuring optimal operation of all equipment and systems.
  • Responding to service requests promptly.
  • Maintaining a robust Preventive Maintenance Program.
  • Supervising all facility operations and maintenance subcontractors.
Performance Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer collaborates with the Property Operations Manager to meet or exceed the objectives outlined in the SFMS technical proposal. This includes:

  • Planning and scheduling work efficiently.
  • Coordinating service requests and task assignments.
  • Identifying necessary resources for task completion.
  • Documenting and approving the procurement of goods and services.

Additionally, the Chief Engineer will participate in staff selection, conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions and terminations, and oversee training initiatives for maintenance personnel.

Additional Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer is accountable for:

  • Direct management of facility support services.
  • Ensuring compliance with SFMS environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Implementing SFMS Green Building Methodology.
  • Maintaining inventory control.
  • Overseeing housekeeping and maintenance of O&M spaces.
  • Assisting in the preparation of estimates for reimbursable services.
  • Administering various management plans related to environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Preparing monthly progress reports and maintaining project-level records.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in facility operations and maintenance.
  • Possession of a DC 3rd Class Engineer license.
  • Professional demeanor and strong time management skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
