Job Title: Executive Director

Join the Mayor's Office of Talent and Appointments (MOTA) as we seek a highly skilled and dedicated Executive Director to lead our efforts in engaging and empowering African-American communities throughout the District of Columbia.

Job Summary

The Executive Director will serve as the primary advocate for African-American communities in the District, working closely with the Mayor and the Commission on African-American Affairs to identify core challenges and areas of need for services or improvement of services. The successful candidate will have a strong background in public policy, community organizing, and constituent engagement, with a demonstrated knowledge of the District's government and private sector groups.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Advocate for African-American communities in the District, identifying core challenges and areas of need for services or improvement of services.
  2. Assist the Mayor in the development and function of the Commission on African-American Affairs, bringing recommendations for meeting these needs to the attention of the office of the Mayor and to the Commission.
  3. Identify areas for service improvement and bring these areas to the attention of the Mayor and the Commission, with recommendations for meeting these needs.
  4. Responsible for the instruction and activities of the MOAAA community outreach program, which informs African-American residents about District Services in the areas of Housing, Health, employment, Economic Development, and Education.
  5. Serves as the primary liaison between the MOAAA and community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sector.
  6. Conducts the office's public relations program, which includes public appearances and public speaking.
  7. Develops and maintains a built-in system of data collection and analysis to provide monthly official evaluations of the Office on African-American Affairs programs.
Requirements
  • Strong background in public policy, community organizing, and constituent engagement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the District's government and private sector groups.
  • Demonstrated organizational and strategic leadership.
  • Strong and demonstrated knowledge of the District's residents and neighborhood business representatives with demonstrated past experience in linking citizen involvement groups to the District government.
