Strategic Buyer for Decorative Accessories

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Buyer and Merchandising Specialist to join our team at Pottery Barn. As a key member of our buying team, you will be responsible for developing and executing business strategies to drive sales and profits for our decorative accessories department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement seasonal assortment plans to maximize brand development, sales, and profits for the decorative accessories department.
  • Identify opportunities for new product development and recommend concepts to drive business growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design, Inventory Management, Sourcing, Production, and Visual, to ensure timely and effective execution of buying plans.
  • Manage and develop Associate and Assistant Buyers to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Perform market analysis, competitive shopping, and sales trend analysis to stay ahead of current trends and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Develop and communicate annual and seasonal strategies to functional areas, including Inventory, Design, Sourcing, Production, and Visual.
  • Collaborate with Inventory Management to develop annual and seasonal financial plans and provide Sourcing and Production Management with purchase quantities, delivery dates, and flow strategies.
  • Maintain relationships with significant suppliers and agents, resolving issues and conducting final negotiations as needed.
  • Recommend and collaborate with Visual to plan floor layouts and provide Inventory Management with final assortment plans, product details, and target retails.
  • Approve final product collections, order quantities, costing, and delivery dates, as well as floor plan layouts and signage.
  • Investigate and respond to field issues, coordinate communication strategies with Store Operations, and provide merchandising information for Store Newsletters.
  • Visit stores and contact field management to gather information on customer feedback and product issues, and provide feedback to improve product and collections.
  • Develop one to two Assistant Buyers, clarifying objectives, assessing performance, and providing regular feedback.

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree required.
  • 5-7 years of buying and merchandising experience.
  • Domestic travel 2x year, with potential for international travel 1-2x year.
  • Keen business and analytical skills.
