PROGRAM INITIATIVES

POLICY AND EXPERT ASSISTANCE
The Center offers tailored assistance to jurisdictions seeking to implement reforms in areas such as community courts and reducing reliance on incarceration. This support includes data analysis, strategic planning, and policy development, as well as facilitating site visits to showcase successful program models.
SUPPORT STRUCTURE
A dedicated support team within the Center ensures operational efficiency across various functions, including finance, human resources, and communications. This team, comprising 15% of the workforce, plays a crucial role in maintaining the infrastructure necessary for the Center's mission.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Red Hook Community Justice Center is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to engage in extensive outreach to program participants and treatment providers, focusing on Harm Reduction strategies to enhance treatment outcomes. Reporting to the Community Healing and Wellness Clinical Director, the Peer Support Specialist will serve as a community-based outreach professional, educating individuals about available services and resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate individuals using controlled substances, encouraging them to pursue treatment and develop a personalized action plan addressing substance use issues.
- Facilitate individualized education tailored to the specific needs of participants, focusing on treatment, harm reduction, and relapse prevention.
- Coordinate referrals and follow up as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to participants as required.
- Conduct training sessions for community members and staff on the use of Narcan and other harm reduction tools.
- Engage with a diverse population respectfully, utilizing a strengths-based approach.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure participants receive appropriate support efficiently.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions.
- Participate in community outreach efforts to connect with individuals referred to the program.
- Attend team meetings, training sessions, and perform administrative tasks as needed.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in integrated substance abuse assessment and motivational interviewing techniques.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Preferred credentials include CRPA, Peer Recovery Coach, or CASAC-T.
- Understanding of harm reduction principles and practices.
