Position Overview:
The Alcohol Category Strategist will spearhead the management of the alcohol segment, focusing on enhancing product sales through effective assortment management, pricing strategies, promotional initiatives, cost negotiations, and optimal product placement for Gopuff. We seek a candidate with comprehensive expertise in the Alcohol (Beer, Wine & Spirits) sector, who is a proactive and product-centric Merchant. This individual will collaborate with various cross-functional teams (including Supply Chain, Marketing, Planning, Business Development, and Digital Merchandising) to create robust assortments that exceed financial targets. Additionally, this role will involve close cooperation with Category Managers in our Retail Business to develop integrated plans across all our brands. A strong analytical foundation is essential for evaluating data and pricing to inform strategic decisions. The ideal candidate will exhibit the problem-solving and analytical capabilities necessary to excel in a dynamic and entrepreneurial setting. Gopuff values innovative problem-solving and collaborative decision-making, with a hybrid work model allowing for creativity and relationship-building with teams three days a week.Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Gopuff and retail operations, internal workflows, and overall product assortment.
  • Oversee business performance against revenue and margin targets, presenting findings in cross-departmental meetings.
  • Direct the selection, pricing, positioning, and marketing strategies for products within the Alcohol category.
  • Create merchandising and category strategies aimed at boosting product sales, margins, and other key performance indicators.
  • Analyze performance across various classes and locations, utilizing data to formulate future strategies.
  • Leverage both internal and external data to make informed decisions that drive incremental sales growth.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for supplier partnerships and new business opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain assortment strategies tailored to specific territory requirements, considering volume, size, distribution, and local trends.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Pricing, and Finance teams to optimize revenue and financial objectives within respective product categories.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and pricing assessments at both national and local levels to ensure effective representation of key product lines and achievement of margin goals.
  • Stay informed on category trends and competitive landscape.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required (Merchandising, Business, or Economics preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in Retail Buying, Merchandising, or Category Management.
  • 7+ years of experience in the Alcohol Industry.
  • Proficiency in Excel is mandatory; SQL knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Supply Chain, Marketing, and Financial Planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, ownership, and accountability for business outcomes.
  • Capacity to respond swiftly with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Experience in management, training, and development is essential.
Compensation Details:
  • Gopuff offers competitive compensation based on market standards, with variations depending on location. The salary range provided reflects the expected compensation for candidates. Starting pay will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. These ranges may be subject to change.
  • Salary Range: $78,000 - $125,000
