The San Francisco Digital Services (SFDS) Team is revolutionizing the way residents engage with the City by creating services tailored to user needs. Role Overview
We are developing the necessary tools to bring City services online, such as our City-wide website. As a member of the content delivery team, you will collaborate closely with City departments to enhance content and service delivery for the residents of San Francisco. You will partner with various departments to transition their services and information online while assisting in upskilling editors throughout the City.
Additionally, you will work in tandem with the product content team, which collaborates with product and design teams to develop the website. You will also contribute to the community of content professionals across the City, sharing your expertise with City employees involved in content creation.
Key Responsibilities
As a Content Designer, we expect you to possess strong writing skills and experience with websites or products. We are committed to creating usable content in multiple languages, not just English. The Content Designer should be fluent in reading and writing Chinese (Traditional) to facilitate collaboration with our translation vendor.
You will guide City departments in transitioning their websites to develop user-centered content that aligns with user needs and business objectives. You will also assist departments in determining how to measure success for their website or digital service.
You will conduct training sessions and provide support for our editors and stakeholders, paving the way for others by participating in the content community and working on content standards for the City. Additionally, you will contribute to a robust content team at Digital Services through content critiques and sharing sessions.
Qualifications
An associate degree in business administration, public administration, information systems, economics, finance, computer science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units AND
Two (2) years of experience in content strategy, content design, copywriting, editing, or UX writing.
Additional experience as described above may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or a closely related field.
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Proficient in reading and writing Chinese (Traditional),
- Experience in designing complex content to meet user needs,
- Familiarity with managing website migrations,
- Strong advocate for user research, capable of assisting with and synthesizing research findings,
- Understanding of how content is accessed by screen readers and other assistive technologies,
- Ability to write and validate user needs and user stories,
- Distinction between user needs and user desires,
- Knowledge of government processes,
- Capability to measure and evaluate outcomes in content and services,
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
