Position Overview: Business Banker Team Lead

Note: This role may be based in various locations within our operational hubs.

The Business Banker Team Lead is responsible for executing all functions associated with Business Banker roles, including the initiation of new commercial relationships and the cross-selling of services to existing clients. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing commercial deposits, loans, and fee income while adhering to the bank's business development strategy and ensuring compliance with company protocols. The target clientele includes businesses with annual revenues up to $10 million and aggregate credit exposure up to $2.5 million.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, implement, and engage in business development initiatives while providing leadership and direction in managing the commercial sales pipeline for new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate on sales strategies across all business lines, including participating in joint client calls with Business Bankers and Small Business Specialists.
  • Maintain portfolio accuracy by staying informed on regulations, local and regional products, and pricing that impact the bank.
  • Identify and engage with suitable commercial prospects within designated target markets, managing an effective prospect list to drive loan portfolio growth.
  • Serve clients through a consultative approach, acting as a trusted advisor to help them identify and address business opportunities and challenges.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in sales development meetings, conducting client meetings using sales and credit tools.
  • Conclude the sales process by assessing financial statements and related data to determine creditworthiness and negotiate credit terms.
  • Review and guide new credit requests for existing clients and prospects, ensuring thorough discussions and pursuit of creditworthy opportunities.
  • Engage in credit underwriting and documentation, ensuring all relevant information is accurately captured and assist in the underwriting process.
  • Ensure all client documentation and agreements are accurate and properly executed before releasing funds.
  • Monitor credit quality within the portfolio, minimizing risk and ensuring timely receipt and review of financial statements and compliance documents.
  • Conduct annual reviews and collateral monitoring promptly.
  • Actively pursue the collection of any overdue accounts.
  • Follow up on any outstanding documentation or requirements.
  • Conduct business in accordance with bank policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participate in community activities that promote the bank and support business development.
  • Complete required training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Support department staff in their professional development and career growth, facilitating the creation of individual goals aligned with departmental objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to identify and recruit qualified candidates for open positions.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to staff regarding performance expectations, salary adjustments, and promotions.
  • Address performance concerns in a timely manner.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations within established timelines.
  • Work with leadership to enhance team capabilities in credit management and business growth through defined sales processes.
  • Ensure Business Bankers and Small Business Specialists monitor their portfolios and communicate any changes in credit risk.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Business and Commercial Banking preferred, with an emphasis on consultative selling.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required.
  • 3+ years of experience in Commercial Credit required.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales growth required.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of business clients required.
  • Strong knowledge of CRM applications, preferably Salesforce, required.
  • Ability to lead by example and communicate a clear vision while focusing on the mission and values of Heartland Financial USA, Inc. required.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Time Type: Full time

Compensation: The targeted salary for this role is $116,000 - $152,040.00. Additional incentive compensation and benefits may be offered, including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Health Savings Account, and Paid Time Off. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skills of the selected candidate.
