Position Summary:
We are seeking an Optical Systems Engineer to become a vital part of our team, primarily based in New Mexico, with significant travel commitments.
Role Responsibilities:
In this role, you will have the autonomy to initiate and develop innovative designs, procedures, and techniques aimed at solving complex engineering challenges. Your assignments will be guided by broad specifications and objectives, requiring your expertise to navigate critical reference points.
Your contributions will include:
- Leading the resolution of engineering challenges and serving as a consulting resource for advanced engineering knowledge.
- Applying cutting-edge technological advancements to engineering problems and potentially taking on project leadership roles.
- Documenting findings and effectively communicating results to engineering teams, including making technical presentations.
- Providing guidance to design or technical staff and leading a team of moderately experienced professionals.
Key Duties:
As an Optical Systems Engineer, you will:
- Develop innovative yet practical solutions to advanced engineering problems.
- Act as a primary technical contact for the company, facilitating communication with management and representing the organization to customers and regulatory agencies.
- Present reports at engineering meetings and participate in program reviews.
- Offer expert guidance to colleagues tackling challenging engineering issues.
- Anticipate future engineering requirements and recommend modifications to achieve technical objectives.
- Address complex technical issues with creative approaches grounded in advanced engineering principles.
- Assume responsibility for the technical success of identifiable projects.
- Direct the activities of design or technical staff, ensuring effective team leadership.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Adhere to all laws, regulations, and obligations while conducting business on behalf of the company.
Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution, along with progressive engineering experience:
- Nine or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree.
- Seven or more years of experience with a master’s degree.
- Four or more years of experience with a PhD.
Additional qualifications include:
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of laser systems.
- Proficiency in aligning optics and operating optical testing equipment.
- Knowledge of laser support systems, including electrical power, thermal management, and water cooling.
- Possession of a Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred).
- Willingness to travel (50%-75%).
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $96,180 - $172,163. Relocation assistance is provided.
