As a Hydrologic Technician at the U.S. Department of the Interior, your responsibilities will encompass:
- Conducting stream discharge measurements under diverse conditions
- Utilizing critical thinking to address field challenges
- Selecting optimal methods for data acquisition
- Gathering hydrologic data through various techniques and instruments
- Executing statistical and technical evaluations of hydrologic information
- Preparing materials for dissemination, including maps and tables
- Collecting, processing, and analyzing samples
- Operating government vehicles as necessary
Physical Requirements
This role demands agility, dexterity, and physical stamina, including climbing tall ladders and navigating challenging terrains.
Work Environment
Office settings are standard, while fieldwork may involve extreme weather conditions and potentially hazardous situations.
Employment Conditions
Key Requirements:
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens
- Must successfully complete a background investigation for Federal employment
- May be required to serve a one-year probationary period
- A valid driver's license and a safe driving record are mandatory
- A pre-employment medical examination is required
Qualifications
Definitions:
EXPERIENCE: One year of full-time work is equivalent to twelve months of employment at least 35-40 hours per week. Part-time experience is prorated. Experience credit is awarded based on the percentage of time spent on relevant tasks.
EDUCATION: One year of full-time academic study equals 30 semester hours. Graduate education is assessed by the number of credit hours completed.
For GS-04:
Applicants must possess a combination of general and specialized experience or a blend of education and experience to qualify at the GS-4 level.
For GS-05:
Candidates must have specialized experience or a bachelor's degree to qualify for GS-5.
For GS-06:
To qualify at the GS-6 level, applicants must have specialized experience or relevant graduate-level education.
All qualification and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
EDUCATION
- Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer roles. Credit is granted for all qualifying experience.
