Amherst, Massachusetts, United States Myrias Optics Full time

Company Overview

Myrias Optics, Inc. is an innovative startup leveraging proprietary nanoimprint technology to transform the conceptualization, design, and manufacturing of optical components and systems. Positioned to disrupt various markets, we cater to applications in consumer electronics, AR/VR, 3D scanning, LiDAR, imaging systems, optical communications, medical devices, optical computing, and beyond. Our distinctive all-inorganic imprinted optics facilitate the creation of metalenses, diffractive optics, and waveguides through wafer-level processes. By eliminating organic materials, we not only enhance environmental sustainability and reliability but also enable intricate designs with unparalleled optical performance and cost-effective production.

Position Overview

The Lead Optical Characterization Engineer will report directly to the CTO and work alongside a skilled team of engineers and scientists to assess and analyze advanced Myrias Optics components and systems. This role involves spearheading the experimental characterization of optical components, establishing and configuring optical characterization systems, developing testing and characterization protocols, and creating efficient data acquisition and analysis techniques. Additionally, the engineer will oversee the growth and management of the optical characterization team. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a driven and skilled engineer to gain expertise in the expanding fields of meta-optics, waveguides, and diffractive optics. Together, we will innovate next-generation optical systems for various applications including consumer devices, medical instrumentation, automotive technology, robotics, and more.

Position Type: Full-time, on-site

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the technical team to design and execute optical experiments and evaluations of Myrias' products and prototypes.
  • Document, analyze, and report findings from optical experiments.
  • Develop automation scripts for data capture and analysis.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing procedures and scripts.
  • Assist in the design and assembly of Myrias' optical components.
  • Support the development, production, and testing of Myrias products.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of essential equipment and components for experiments and production testing.
  • Provide customer support for shipped products and prototypes.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in optics or a related technical field; Ph.D. preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting optical experiments, including the development of optical characterization systems and analysis of diffractive optics, imaging systems, and optical waveguides.
  • Programming experience for automating data capture and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of ray optics, diffraction, and imaging system metrics.
  • Experience with document control best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CAD design software (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and experience with machine shop and 3D printing technologies are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of imprint or nanofabrication processes and cleanroom experience is a plus.
  • Able to connect technology development with commercial requirements.
  • Experience in a startup or early-stage business environment is beneficial.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a hands-on approach.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity options.
  • Comprehensive medical and dental plans.
  • Company-paid disability insurance.
  • Paid time off for vacation and sick leave.
