Position Overview – Lead Optical Characterization Engineer

Reporting directly to the CTO, the Lead Optical Characterization Engineer will work alongside a skilled team of engineers and scientists to assess and validate advanced Myrias Optics components and systems. This role involves spearheading the experimental characterization of optical components, establishing and configuring optical characterization systems, and developing efficient methodologies for data acquisition and analysis. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for expanding and managing the optical characterization team. This position offers a unique opportunity for a driven engineer to gain expertise in the rapidly evolving fields of meta-optics, waveguides, and diffractive optics, contributing to the development of next-generation optical systems for various applications.

Position Type: Full-time, on-site

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the technical team to design and execute optical experiments for evaluating Myrias' products and prototypes.
  • Document, analyze, and present findings from optical experiments.
  • Develop automation scripts for data capture and analysis.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing procedures and scripts.
  • Assist in the design and assembly of Myrias' optical components.
  • Support the development, production, and testing of Myrias products.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of essential equipment and components for experiments and production testing.
  • Provide customer support for delivered products and prototypes.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in optics or a related technical field; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Over 5 years of experience in conducting optical experiments, including the development of optical characterization systems and analysis of diffractive optics, imaging systems, and optical waveguides.
  • Proficiency in programming for automating data capture and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of ray optics, diffraction, and imaging system metrics.
  • Experience with document control best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical communication skills.
  • Familiarity with CAD design software (e.g., SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and experience with machine shop and 3D printing technologies are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of imprint or nanofabrication processes and cleanroom experience is a plus.
  • Ability to align technology development with commercial requirements.
  • Experience in a startup or early-stage business environment is preferred.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, hands-on approach.
