About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landscape Design Professional to join our team at InsideHigherEd. As a Senior Landscape Architect, you will play a key role in supporting the design, management, and implementation of projects initiated by our Landscape and Construction Services Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Develop and prepare design documents, including analysis, guidelines, reports, and final presentations, for funding campus landscape projects.
  • Construction and Maintenance: Develop and prepare construction documents, including site plans, planting plans, details, and materials, to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with Landscape & Construction, Mechanical Utilities, Electric Utilities supervisors and managers, and faculty from Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Plant and Soil Sciences to ensure project success.
  • Project Monitoring: Conduct field observations to monitor project implementation, including coordination with clients to ensure successful project completion.
  • Design Review: Review and provide constructive feedback for landscape and construction designs by outside consultants and designers to ensure consistency with university standards.
  • Landscape Planning: Create detailed landscape plans using CADD software, prepare conceptual designs, site layouts, and documentation to ensure effective project execution.
  • Sustainability and Conservation: Analyze environmental and conservation committee reports during project development to implement sustainable practices into landscape designs.
  • Research and Analysis: Research and provide site analysis/due diligence, including code requirements, to ensure project compliance.
  • Contract Management: Prepare contract documents, including working drawings, specifications, and stamps, for site projects to ensure successful project execution.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with staff engineers, architects, managers, and technicians to determine existing conditions and establish project requirements for developing the scope of work and project cost estimates.
  • Professional Development: Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes and regulations relating to landscape/hardscape, sitework, and maintenance to ensure compliance.
  • Customer Service: Promote and assure continuous improvement by establishing and maintaining productive relationships that reflect a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Technical Skills: Maintain proficiency in computer-assisted design software, landscape inventory software, and other computer systems used in professional landscape architecture organizations, including presentation and spreadsheet applications.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • Registration: Registered Landscape Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or the ability to obtain registration within one year through reciprocity.
  • Experience: More than seven (7) years' experience in landscape/site/underground utility design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Skills: Working knowledge of architectural and engineering systems, construction materials, and utilities systems; thorough knowledge of plant material identification, selection, care, and maintenance; demonstrated experience in oral, written, and graphic communications; demonstrated experience in CADD, word processing, presentations, and spreadsheet software.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to access and negotiate around any portion of a construction site, including driving to access construction sites.
