Role Summary

The Senior Systems Architect is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of systems and procedures that provide technological support to the Administration and Finance Division. This role involves evaluating and recommending innovative technologies, guiding the strategic direction of Administration & Finance Information Technology (AFIT), and leading project implementations through effective leadership and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the principal technical designer and administrator for systems utilized by Administration and Finance.
  • Provide mentorship and training to IT system engineers and administrators in the development and deployment of enterprise-level Windows and Linux systems.
  • Establish and enforce security protocols to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of administrative information resources.
  • Facilitate discussions to improve communication regarding IT matters across the campus.
  • Lead multiple projects aimed at researching and implementing strategies for the migration and consolidation of complex distributed systems into a centralized enterprise model.
  • Continuously analyze and update systems to keep pace with evolving technologies.
  • Design and configure Windows and Linux servers in a diverse environment, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor system performance and optimize resource allocation for efficient management.
  • Address escalated alerts and resolve customer-reported issues.
  • Develop automation tools to streamline tasks and integrate IT services.
  • Engage in strategic planning for both short- and long-term objectives of AFIT, incorporating industry best practices.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as necessary to support departmental and university goals.
  • Provide expert consultation to AFIT and campus staff on system provisioning and centralized maintenance.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with over 10 years of experience in Windows and Linux systems administration within a large-scale environment.
  • Experience in supporting Windows or Macintosh desktops, including software deployment.
  • Cross-platform systems administration experience, particularly with UNIX/Linux and Windows.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages such as PowerShell, Perl, or Bash.
  • Familiarity with virtualization tools like VMWare or Vagrant.
  • Knowledge of system and network security practices.
  • Experience with system monitoring tools such as Nagios and Solarwinds.
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Proven leadership experience in technical teams or project management.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a large educational institution.
  • Familiarity with managing web services on Windows and/or UNIX/Linux platforms.
