Job Overview

Position Summary

The Marine Safety Coordinator plays a pivotal role in promoting health and safety management across the organization by establishing and reinforcing exemplary operational procedures within the Dive Construction Business Unit (DCBU). This position collaborates closely with the DCBU Management Team to safeguard the well-being of personnel engaged in activities under the DCBU portfolio and partners with the Company's Safety Training Manager to create and implement relevant training initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the formulation and execution of diving, construction, and maritime safety initiatives and policies.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulations, and best practices concerning diving, construction, and maritime safety.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk evaluations for DCBU operations.
  • Identify potential risks and devise strategies to mitigate them.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and standards related to diving, construction, and maritime safety.
  • Guarantee that all DCBU activities comply with applicable local, national, and international regulations.
  • Engage with project managers, dive teams, and other stakeholders to ensure a thorough understanding of safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with fellow safety professionals to integrate diving, construction, and maritime safety into broader safety programs.
  • Conduct detailed investigations of incidents and near misses.
  • Implement corrective measures to prevent future occurrences of incidents.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of dive operations, including safety protocols, equipment inspections, and incident documentation.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to establish and enforce medical fitness standards for divers.
  • Develop and execute emergency response plans for diving-related incidents.
  • Conduct drills and training exercises to ensure team preparedness for emergencies.
  • Coordinate and deliver training for dive personnel, including divers, support staff, and supervisors, in collaboration with the Company's Safety Training Team.
  • Assist in ensuring that all personnel involved in diving activities possess the necessary certifications and qualifications.
  • Support the inspection and maintenance of diving equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Regularly review and revise dive safety procedures based on lessons learned and updates in industry standards.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement in diving safety practices.
  • Participate in job site kickoffs, visits, and audits in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Conduct various internal safety and compliance assessments to evaluate conditions and safe work practices at job sites.
  • Engage in meetings as necessary.
  • Represent and participate in industry and client-related safety meetings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with various third parties, including commercial insurance brokers and providers.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual base compensation range for candidates in Seattle, WA: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00

Actual base compensation offered will be determined based on multiple factors, including relevant skills and experience. In addition to base compensation, full-time employees will receive the following benefits:

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • CSP, ASP, CHST, or OHST or similar designation preferred.
  • 3-5 years of dive or marine safety experience required; 5-8 years of dive or marine safety experience required if no degree.
  • Valid driver's license.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and regional offices.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Working knowledge of dive industry equipment requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic office applications.
  • Understanding of and experience with ADCI, USCG, OSHA (Federal and Cal-OSHA), NFPA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions.
  • Understanding of Worker's Compensation, USL&H, and Jones Act Claims.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis.
