Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates accountability for professional growth that enhances the quality of nursing practice and patient care.

Actively engages in unit-based governance, setting goals, and supporting transitions aimed at improving care quality and the work environment.

- Functions as a fully engaged partner within the care team, readily responding to the needs of team members for support and collaboration.

- Participates in initiatives that enhance patient care and the professional practice setting. Adapts to changes and shows flexibility throughout the transition process.


- Actively contributes to department-specific quality improvement initiatives. Identifies opportunities for enhancement and takes personal responsibility for improving patient satisfaction with care quality and service.

- Utilizes research and evidence-based practices to support advancements in clinical care, identifies relevant research topics, and discusses quality improvement opportunities during multidisciplinary rounds.


- Demonstrates understanding of adult learning principles and applies them in educating patients, families, students, and new staff.

- Provides comprehensive and appropriate education to patients and families, guiding them through their care journey and transitions.

- Supports the development of students and new staff, potentially serving as a mentor. Fosters an environment of open communication, inquiry, and continuous improvement by seeking feedback and enhancing practice.


- Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to cultivate a healing environment.

- Establishes daily goals and care plans that involve patients as partners, considering their individual needs holistically.

- Exhibits critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues relevant to patient care.

- Demonstrates effective communication skills, articulating patient conditions to other care providers and negotiating recommendations for changes in care and unit practices.

- Ensures comprehensive patient documentation that promotes effective communication among caregivers.

- Integrates national professional standards along with organizational goals to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

- Creates a compassionate and patient-centered experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.


- Develops and maintains productive relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues.

- Understands cultural differences and encourages peers to maintain healthy relationships. Balances work and personal life effectively.

- Communicates any identified safety hazards in the workplace to peers and management.


Qualifications:
- Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages as specified by the assigned unit.

- Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles and possesses the ability to assess and interpret data reflecting patient status to meet age-specific needs.

- Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience; a BSN is preferred. Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good rating on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation for promotion to this level and maintain this rating annually.

- Completion of a VP-approved professional contribution from corporate nursing goals is required for promotion.

- Must hold current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the practicing state.

- UPMC-approved nursing certification is required and must be maintained; certification is not necessary if a Master's in nursing is held.

- CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, including both a theoretical and practical demonstration component.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
