The role of Professional Staff Nurse is a significant milestone in the UPMC nursing career ladder, offering pathways for ongoing growth and professional development. Compensation and title will be based on educational background and nursing experience.

  • Demonstrate accountability for professional growth that enhances the quality of nursing practice and patient care. Participate in shared governance and support the transition processes aimed at improving care quality.
  • Foster productive working relationships by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues, while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
  • Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care to cultivate a healing environment, formulating daily goals and care plans that consider the holistic needs of patients.

The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to patients across various age groups, demonstrating an understanding of growth and development principles. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Preferred national certification approved by UPMC. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York. CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration components.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
