About the Role

Columbia University's Department of University Event Management is seeking a highly skilled Audio Visual Technician to join our team. As a key member of our event planning and related services team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional audio/visual services at various events and venues across the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Audio/Visual Equipment Delivery and Setup: Deliver and set up audio/visual equipment for conference-style events, including video conferencing units, LCDs, laptop computers, and amplification systems.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Assist in the maintenance and repair of audio/visual and theatrical equipment to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Event Operations: Operate the lighting and/or sound for performance events under the direction of management, ensuring a high-quality experience for attendees.
  • Inventory Control: Assist the Equipment Manager with inventory control of audio/visual equipment, ensuring accurate tracking and maintenance of equipment.
  • Customer Service: Respond to customers' questions during events in a polite and timely manner, providing complete and accurate information according to department standards.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the success of the department.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: At least two years of experience working with a variety of audio/visual equipment, including video conferencing units, LCDs, laptop computers, and amplification systems.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work flexible hours and a changing schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as schedule dictates.
  • Overtime: Ability to work both scheduled and unplanned overtime as required.
  • Customer Service: Excellent customer service orientation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with a diverse constituency.
  • Multi-Tasking: Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Discretion and Professionalism: Utmost discretion and professionalism required at all times.
