About the Role

Columbia University's Department of University Event Management is seeking a skilled Audio Visual Technician to provide exceptional audio/visual services at various events and venues across the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Event Setup and Execution: Deliver and set up audio/visual equipment for conference-style events, including video conferencing units, LCDs, laptop computers, and amplification systems.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Assist in the maintenance and repair of audio/visual and theatrical equipment to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Performance Support: Operate lighting and/or sound for performance events under the direction of management, ensuring a high-quality experience for attendees.
  • Inventory Management: Collaborate with the Equipment Manager to maintain accurate inventory control of audio/visual equipment, ensuring timely availability for events.
  • Customer Service: Respond to customers' questions during events in a polite and timely manner, providing complete and accurate information according to department standards.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful execution of events and the department's goals.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: At least two years of experience working with a variety of audio/visual equipment, including video conferencing units, LCDs, laptop computers, and amplification systems.
  • Schedule and Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as schedule dictates, with the ability to work both scheduled and unplanned overtime.
  • Skills and Qualities: Excellent customer service orientation, interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate with a diverse constituency, with utmost discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
