Audio Visual Production Manager

Position Overview

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL) serves as a crucial resource for library users throughout New York City, acting as a link between community libraries and extensive research collections. This role involves overseeing the audio/visual production and technological requirements for various events and services at SNFL.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate:
  • Engage with programming teams to ascertain audio/visual needs and ensure adequate staffing and equipment.
  • Collaborate with AV vendors for the setup and management of audio visual technology for events.
  • Manage room reservations and related support at SNFL.
Educate:
  • Provide training on AV production best practices to team members.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding event requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of AV technicians during events.
Develop:
  • Gain insights into project management methodologies.
  • Understand the AV team's contributions to the Public Programs team and NYPL.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and information sharing.
Enhance:
  • Refine AV production practices to optimize resource use and reduce costs.
  • Improve the overall event experience for attendees and participants.
  • Advance programmatic offerings through effective use of lighting and other resources.
  • Support DEIA initiatives.
Expectations for the Role

Within 1 month:
  • Learn about stage management responsibilities.
  • Assist in creating AV protocol documentation for part-time staff.
  • Plan for the ongoing support and expansion of programming activities.
Within 3 months:
  • Ensure part-time technicians are familiar with library policies and team objectives.
  • Work towards creating efficient workflows for event spaces.
Within 6 months and beyond:
  • Implement stage management responsibilities.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions with part-time technicians and address any conflicts.
Event Day Responsibilities
  • Oversee the setup and operation of professional audio visual equipment, including sound, video, lighting, and staging.
  • Troubleshoot live audio and video equipment.
  • Lead sound checks with guest talent and production teams.
  • Manage live and pre-recorded virtual event broadcasting.
  • Handle audio engineering for live events, including the operation of wireless microphones.
  • Coordinate live audio and video recordings for archival purposes.
Post-Production Duties
  • Maintain an organized archive of program recordings and media assets.
  • Perform video and audio editing tasks.
  • Incorporate accessibility features into video recordings.
  • Manage audio transcripts and archival materials.
Departmental Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining AV equipment inventory and scheduled maintenance.
  • Support staff with AV-related inquiries and issues.
  • Coordinate logistics for live event productions.
  • Organize and track accessibility services for programs.
Qualifications

Experience and Education:
  • Demonstrated experience in audio visual settings and event production in a dynamic environment.
Skills:
  • Proficient in audio engineering for live events.
  • Experience with live streaming and recording setups.
  • Familiarity with audio and video editing software, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard AV equipment and software.
Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Manage and schedule AV staff, delegating tasks for events.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and library production teams.
  • Participate in the hiring process for new AV roles.
