Qualifications:
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Basic Requirements:
A. Educational Background - A degree that includes a minimum of 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience - A combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours in behavioral or social sciences, providing knowledge equivalent to a 4-year degree.
Educational Evaluation:
Relevant courses may include sociology, correctional administration, criminal justice, political science, psychology, social work, counseling, and other related fields.
Experience Evaluation:
Experience should be gained in one of the following areas:
(1) Casework within a correctional facility or related criminal justice environment;
(2) Counseling in any context requiring diagnostic or treatment planning skills;
(3) Work focused on social rehabilitation.
Additional Requirements:
In addition to the basic qualifications, candidates must possess:
Education:
Three years of progressively advanced graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in corrections or a related field such as criminal justice, sociology, psychology, counseling, or social work.
OR
Experience:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service, equipping the candidate with the necessary qualifications to fulfill the role's responsibilities.
Examples of Qualifying Experience:
- Facilitating gender-responsive and trauma-informed processes, fostering group discussions, and encouraging open communication.
- Designing and planning objectives for group sessions that are responsive to gender and trauma, monitoring group dynamics, and adjusting as needed.
- Identifying and addressing underlying conflicts among participants to enhance group cohesion.
Combination of Education and Experience:
Successful combinations of graduate-level education and specialized experience may be utilized to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate-level education exceeding the requirements for the next lower grade may be combined with experience.

Credit will be granted for both paid and unpaid experience. Proper documentation of hours worked in relevant activities is essential for consideration.
