Tribal Government Specialist Job Description

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Pacific Region, Office of the Deputy Director - Indian Services, Tribal Government in Sacramento, California.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer and manage program operations and activities related to tribal governments.
  • Review and process tribal organic documents, referendums, tribal enrollment, and tribal ordinances.
  • Provide training and guidance on tribal government functions, Indian Law, and government-to-government relationships with the Tribes.
  • Collaborate with tribal governments to develop and implement policies and programs.
Requirements:
  • GS-11: One year of specialized experience or equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-09 in the Federal Service.
  • GS-09: One year of specialized experience or equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-07 in the Federal Service.
  • GS-07: One year of specialized experience or equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-05 in the Federal Service.
Education:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree.
  • 1 full year of graduate level education.

Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
