Manager of Research and Competitive Insights

LOCATION: New York, NY

SUMMARY: A leading global law firm is in search of a Manager of Research and Competitive Insights to bolster the Firm's strategic policy, competitive intelligence, and business analytics initiatives. This role collaborates closely with the Global Research Lead to influence firm strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and assist in the development and implementation of impactful strategic business development and analytics projects.
  • Establish project timelines and track high-priority and high-value opportunities.
  • Conduct thorough research on the Firm's transactions across various industries, regions, and transaction types utilizing a range of internal and external resources.
  • Accurately document and maintain comprehensive transaction records in the Firm's extensive database.
  • Create guides and resource materials for the experience database, detailing best practices for researching and documenting transactions, as well as assisting in the development of definitions and taxonomies.
  • Provide research support, coordination, and logistical management for new business proposals.
  • Refine and curate essential materials related to specific industries, practice descriptions, and representative experiences.
  • Research, develop, and manage visibility opportunities, such as industry seminars and speaking/sponsorship engagements to enhance individual or group profiles.
  • Monitor alerts and news to support proactive team initiatives.
  • Conduct competitive intelligence and benchmarking research within specific industries or among peer firms.
  • Assist in gathering specific case experiences for recording in the case tracking database.
  • Stay informed on new developments in the legal sector and overall business landscape to remain abreast of industry trends.
  • Update information in the Firm's marketing CRM database, including reviewing and creating mailing lists.
  • Consult with attorneys on new content, including matters and awards/rankings, and the focus of their biographies.
  • Collaborate with all divisions of the broader Business Development team and Research & Competitive Insights team.
  • Supervise the Firm's Research Analyst, providing support and mentorship.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 7+ years of experience in business intelligence or market research/analysis within a law firm, finance, or investment banking environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; an advanced degree is a significant advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant sources, techniques, and technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of sources covering corporate, mergers & acquisitions, private equity, and litigation data.
  • Exceptional communication and listening skills, with a natural ability to engage with stakeholders.
  • Proven capability to organize and manage a diverse array of projects, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing deadlines, often in high-pressure situations.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity with various research databases.
  • Professional demeanor, emotional intelligence, and collaborative spirit.
