Position Overview: This role is responsible for overseeing and directing the financial operations of our manufacturing sector. The individual will provide strategic financial guidance, ensure adherence to financial protocols and controls, lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, and maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial data. The position will also manage cost accounting and accounts payable functions, including financial analysis of material, labor, and overhead expenditures, determining product costs and profitability, and monitoring inventory accuracy and cost of goods sold. This role will collaborate closely with the Vice President of Operations to manage the operational budget and will take a leadership role in continuous improvement initiatives by delivering timely and precise cost accounting, financial analysis, and reporting. The work is conducted under the general supervision of the Vice President of Finance, allowing for independent judgment and decision-making in daily responsibilities; the role also involves managing the finance team that supports operations.

Key Performance Areas: Acts as a financial business partner and intermediary between operations leadership and finance, possessing a strong understanding of cost accounting and general accounting principles, demonstrating leadership and people management capabilities, and exhibiting the ability to thrive in a highly visible, dynamic environment.

Hybrid Work Model:

  • Remote work on Mondays and Fridays
  • In-office presence required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees financial planning and analysis for the Operations division, including capital budgeting, preparation of annual operational budgets, monthly forecasts, and reports that identify variances, analyze their nature, and recommend corrective actions to enhance financial performance.
  • Collaborates with manufacturing leaders and other departments to ensure accurate product costing and drives accountability for maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Develops and recommends costing systems, processes, and procedures; supervises operations accounting staff in monitoring costs and related financial systems to identify and recommend procedural and processing improvements necessary for effective operational support.
  • Reviews costing standards and monitors their relevance to the actual environment, recommending periodic adjustments as needed.
  • Manages inventory control activities, including physical inventories; develops and implements policies, procedures, and processes for physical counts, reconciliations, and adjustments to inventory records.
  • Initiates and conducts studies and analyses to identify cost drivers of business activities, including variances in raw material purchase prices, manufacturing processes, and losses.
  • Establishes procedures to calculate, monitor, and update labor and overhead rates for process/product costing; generates management reports that specify and compare factors affecting product costs and profitability.
  • Ensures a timely month-end close process and accurate month-end reporting, maintaining the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Consolidates and reports key financial metrics monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date for benchmarking and performance management.
  • Develops forecasting methodologies and key metrics to create an overall operational cost forecast in alignment with company forecasts.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate guidelines for all operations-related internal controls.
  • May conduct additional financial analyses in support of strategic initiatives as directed by the Vice President of Finance or Vice President of Operations.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of ten years of accounting and financial experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting, with three years of managerial experience preferred; CPA or MBA credentials are advantageous.
