Position Overview

The Arc of King County is dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) throughout their lives. Our mission encompasses a range of services designed to empower individuals and their families, ensuring equitable access to community resources and opportunities.

Role Summary

The Coordinator of Healthy Relationships plays a vital role within the Information and Family Support Team, focusing on the implementation of the Healthy Relationships initiative. This program is tailored to provide individuals with IDD, their families, and the broader community with specialized habilitation services, educational resources, and outreach efforts concerning topics such as sexuality, safety, and healthy interpersonal connections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized habilitation services to a select group of clients, including planning sessions and maintaining accurate records on topics related to dating, sexuality, and social skills.
  • Develop and curate a comprehensive, scientifically-backed Healthy Relationships curriculum that is accessible and respectful of diverse experiences, including race, gender identity, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Conduct outreach and facilitate registration for workshops focused on Healthy Relationships.
  • Educate individuals of all ages with IDD throughout the community, while also training educators to deliver the curriculum effectively.
  • Provide mentorship and support to new staff members, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Assist parents and caregivers in enhancing their ability to support individuals with disabilities in various settings.
  • Ensure program activities are inclusive and accessible to diverse cultural communities.
  • Participate in community events and educational workshops to promote awareness of The Arc and available resources.
  • Maintain up-to-date program documentation and promotional materials, including accurate data entry in Salesforce.
  • Collaborate with the Public Policy and Civic Engagement Team to develop educational resources and civic engagement opportunities related to healthy relationships.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.
  • Certification as a Life Skills Coach or relevant degree in psychology, social work, education, or a related field.
  • Preferred background in sex and health education.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and an understanding of social justice issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Ability to travel within the community for meetings and events.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
