Role Summary:
The ideal candidate for the Medical Laboratory Technologist position will exhibit a collaborative spirit, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment. This role is crucial for ensuring that clinical laboratory tests requested by healthcare providers are conducted accurately and promptly, adhering to established laboratory protocols and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute the clinical laboratory's protocols for specimen management, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test outcomes.
- Maintain comprehensive records demonstrating proficiency testing of samples in alignment with patient testing standards.
- Follow quality control policies rigorously, documenting all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance tasks performed.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues that may negatively impact test performance or the reporting of results.
- Document corrective actions taken when testing systems deviate from established performance criteria.
- Conduct routine and complex test procedures requiring professional judgment as assigned.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the theoretical principles underlying the tests performed.
- Recognize significant deviations in test results for adult and geriatric patients and understand the scientific rationale behind these variations.
- Calibrate instruments and evaluate equipment accuracy; perform preventive and corrective maintenance as necessary.
- Review and verify all laboratory test results, addressing inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff and physicians, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels and supplies.
- Prioritize work tasks efficiently to meet laboratory demands.
- Adapt to administrative changes in staffing and scheduling as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of quality control standards to ensure test result accuracy.
- Propose and, upon approval, implement technical and administrative improvements to laboratory operations.

Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry, biology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Certification as MLS, MLT, CLS, MT, or equivalent from a nationally recognized accreditation body such as ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
- Compliance with CLIA requirements for testing personnel in High Complexity Testing.
- Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience.
- Possess the necessary reasoning and mathematical skills to implement laboratory policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound analytical judgment, especially under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Capability to function in a fast-paced environment, engaging with healthcare providers and laboratory staff.
- Demonstrated speed, consistency, and accuracy in task execution to meet laboratory standards.
